Obituary of Juan De Santiago
Our beloved Juan "Banana Man" De Santiago, age 62, was called to our Heavenly Father on Friday, February 28, 2020.
Juan proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. His last duty station was held on the U.S.S. Lexington that he is proudly overlooking in the harbor in Corpus Christi that is featured as the cover photo on his webpage at www.missionmemorials.com. After his military career, he returned to Austin where he worked for U.T. Austin, Travis State School and most recently Taco Cabana as an HVAC repair specialist. He was also Past Commander and current member of the VFW Post 8925 and American Legion Knebel Post 83 Austin, Texas. In addition, many will remember Juan as a wonderful DJ known as “El Vato Loco de Creedmoor – DJ Banana Man”.
Juan was preceded in death by his sons, Ronnie Hernandez De Santiago and Juan "Jack" De Santiago, Jr.; granddaughter, Veronica Yvonne De Santiago; parents, Teofilo and Eulalia De Santiago; and siblings: Leonardo De Santiago, Teresa De Santiago, Sista De Santiago, Cruz De Santiago, Delfino Ojeda, and Petra Martinez.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Olivia "Libby" De Santiago; daughters, Yolanda Louise De Santiago and Olivia Eulalia De Santiago; grandchildren: Stephanie De Santiago, Jessi De Santiago (Dai), Juan Andrew De Santiago III, Jakob De Santiago, Katelyn De Santiago, Maria Urbano, JoAnna Hernandez (Matt), Alexis Garcia (Juan), Brianna De Santiago, Guadalupe Sauceda, Ylianna Ayala and Emily Sanchez; great grandchildren, Dominic Adam Lucero, Dai Elijah Zavala III, Julian, Jeremiah, Journey, and Luna Martinez, Isaac and Veronica Vasquez, and Jenelle Garcia; sister, Mary Verastegui and her husband Frank; brother Pete De Santiago and his wife Patty; and brother Angel De Santiago; as well as numerous other loving family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 9:00 p.m. with Recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Mission Funeral Home – South. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at San Francisco Javier Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. prior to Mass at the church. Interment will follow at Mendoza Cemetery with U.S. Navy Honors.
